A Prototype Claas Combine

Van der Vlist is proud to announce its successful delivery of a groundbreaking modified CLAAS Jaguar tracked shuttle system "990 TS” to the premise of Rickerby Ltd, a prominent CLAAS UK dealer. Over the next 12 months, this prototype will be undergoing extensive trials in various forage crops across the UK.

The bespoke machine is the result of a collaborative effort between Jamie Rickerby and a specialist engineer in Switzerland. It addresses the growing need for efficient forage harvesting in challenging soil conditions. This system holds immense potential for harvesting a variety of crops, including maize, whole crop, grass silage and willow particularly within Controlled Traffic Farming (CTF) systems.

Current CTF systems are primarily tailored for combinable arable crops,” explains Jamie Rickerby. “This tracked shuttle has the potential to revolutionise forage harvesting, enabling farmers and contractors to implement CTF for crops like grass, whole crop, maize, and willow, significantly reducing soil compaction and improving efficiency.

Utilising genuine CLAAS components, the project involved extensive modifications, innovations, and reinforcements to a standard CLAAS Jaguar, including the integration of a hydraulically controlled tracked bunker and unloading system.

The base Jaguar 990 unit was delivered to the specialist modifying company in Q3 2024, under a temporary export. Van der Vlist played a crucial role in arranging the transport of the modified unit, navigating the complexities of oversized transport and temporary export licensing. Due to the machine’s dimensions, the tracks, original wheels and rear axles were removed to reduce height and transported separately, ensuring both the machine and tracks arrived at Rickerby Ltd.'s Carlisle premises simultaneously for reassembly.

We are delighted to have contributed to this pioneering project,” stated Neil Keeping, Managing Director at Van der Vlist UK. “Our expertise in handling complex logistics and oversized transport ensured a smooth and efficient delivery, enabling Jamie Rickerby to bring this innovative solution to the UK.

The Van der Vlist team has impressed Rickerby Ltd. with our professionalism and in-depth knowledge that’s needed for complex, heavy, and out-of-gauge transporting questions, and the helpfulness of our expert drivers during loading, transport, and unloading of the machine.
