Moving Giant Gensets
The Van der Vlist team have recently completed the movement of 34 containerised Gensets from the UK to the Frankfurt area of Germany. Each unit was 12.3ML x 3.6MW x4.3MH – 43T. In addition to the generators, the delivery also included 1 fuel tank and two attenuators per set, so in total 136 pieces were moved.
This was a challenging project due to the difficult access to the site and the location of the delivery point being close to an environmentally protected area. Numerous site visits and discussion with the local authorities took place to find a suitable route for the last mile to site.
The Gensets were moved from the UK factory on Low Loaders to the Van der Vlist Facility in Groot Ammers where they were transhipped using our gantry crane onto vessel bridge trailers to allow movement through Holland and Germany due to the height.
There was a very tight delivery schedule of two complete sets (including ancillaries) required on site every week meaning timing was of the essence to ensure just in time deliveries to meet the crane and install team.
Although some delays in the schedule were encountered at the start due to the finalisation of permits, it was possible to make up this time during the end phase of the project to ensure all deliveries were made in time.
