During the past few weeks we’ve had scaffolding around our new Moerdijk terminal, in a figurative sense of course. However, now we are able to take that all down and unveil this very exciting CAF train project! People sometimes say ‘It’s not the whistle that pulls the train’, and we wholeheartedly agree. Because it wasn’t a whistle, it is a process with great efforts of our team and our partners. So, all aboard, because in this article we want to take you on a part of that journey.
Together with our client, CAF, who designs and supplies transportation systems worldwide, we created a more sustainable and efficient way of bringing their solutions in different parts of Europe, with a current focus on Scandinavia.
The trains are built and developed at the CAF production facility in Spain, from where they are transported by RoRo vessel to Antwerp. Then, the train modules are put onto river RoRo barges and transported to the Van der Vlist terminal in Moerdijk. After unloading from the barge, the train modules are put onto our terminal tracks by the Van der Vlist team, with our special rail-equipment.
Next up, is the technical installation of the train. All modules are connected, using our proprietary weight bearing equipment. Then, our technical team can start working on connecting both internal and external aspects of the train modules to make it travel-ready.
Then there’s only one thing left to do, we wave our handkerchief to the train that leaves and start up this innovative cycle again!
