Laying the Tracks
To support the vision of a multimodal sustainable supply chain, and our growing activities, Van der Vlist has built a new, privately owned, terminal at Port of Moerdijk. As of January, the terminal is operational, including 400 metres of rail track that has been brought unto the terminal.
Our multimodal hub, where waterway, road and rail come together, is up and running. Our personnel was able to move in just before Christmas, our giant gantry crane has been installed, one side of dredging is finished so ships can be handled, and the first phase of installing our own rail on our quay has been completed.
This first phase consists of 400 meters of rail, which can be extended to 850 meters in subsequent phases. Additional to this 400 metres of rail, a work pit has been installed, in order to safely and efficiently carry out any modification tasks. The rail connection will be used for various activities for rail vehicle manufacturers and for loading/unloading company and intermodal trains, possibly with connections via other modalities. The focus is on multimodal transport of project cargo.
Everything is aimed at providing our customers with optimal, sustainable solutions. Not just transporting from A to B, but providing our management function at our terminal, where products from different parts of the world come together in a central location to be processed and distributed just-in-time. The Van der Vlist Group, as a 4PL service provider, can provide customers the complete logistics service.
